Thumbnails For Cover Design

In the process of planning my shots, I took twenty photos as a way of experimentation to find the ideal shot.

  1. This planning work was useful for thinking about how layout works. You could use this work to block out your cover (placing of cover lines, masthead, date, issue details, bar code, puff and so on).

Equally, you could proceed directly to taking a series of shots that are 'the real thing', that is, are serious contenders for your cover shot, with the guitarist in costume holding the chosen guitar. Then you could start sketching out layout around your chosen pose. Remember to take a good number of shots to give yourself maximum choice and to include some that will be useful for the content page or article on the double page spread.
